FINE ARTS ACADEMY APPLICATION

 
8415 - CONCERT BAND  (9,10,11,12) 2 Credits/2 Semesters

A band class open to students of intermediate skill level.  This band will perform at football games, parades, concerts, and festivals.  Beginning  students may be accepted with approval of the teacher.

 

8420 - SYMPHONIC BAND  (9,10,11,12)  2 Credits/2 Semesters

A band class open to students of advanced skill level.  This class will perform at football games, parades, concerts, and festivals.  Students will be accepted by audition and teacher recommendation only.
Prerequisite:  Instructor's approval after audition. 

 

8461 - JAZZ BAND 3  (9, 10,11,12) 2 Credits/2 Semesters
8462 - JAZZ BAND 2  (9, 10,11,12) 2 Credits/2 Semesters
8463 - JAZZ BAND 1  (10,11,12) 2 Credits/2 Semesters

A band class devoted to the study of jazz music open to students of beginning (3) intermediate (2), advanced (1) skill levels.  These classes will perform at concerts, festivals, and other events.  Students must be involved in Concert or Symphonic Band, audition in the late spring or early fall, and have teacher approval.  
Prerequisite:  Participation in Concert or Symphonic Band and Instructor’s Approval after audition.  May be scheduled before or after school.

 

8210 - THEATRE 1  (9,10,11,12) 1 Credit/1 Semester

Designed to teach appreciation of theater and drama through emphasis on fundamentals of theater which will include: history, play reading and analysis, stage terminology, movement, characterization, and technical aides.

 

8220 - THEATRE 2   (9,10,11,12) 1 Credit/1 Semester

Designed to follow Introduction to Theater as an advanced course with emphasis on acting skills, scene building, and character development through class performances.
Prerequisite:  A "B" in Introduction to Theatre or Instructor's Approval

 

8221 - IB THEATRE 3, SL  (11,12) 2 Credits/2 Semesters
8222 - IB THEATRE 4, HL (12)  2 Credits/2 Semesters

This course is intended as an advanced study in performance skills, world theatre studies, practical play analysis and theatre production.  The study of theatre provided students with an understanding of theatre as an illusion incorporating acting, make-up, stagecraft, and costuming.  The course will include the study of theatre as a process including audition, casting, rehearsal, production, critique and artistic appreciation open the door to artistic appreciation.  Through an exploration of various world theatre forms students will gain an understanding of the historical periods of drama, the literary types of drama and forms of production.


 
8245 - STAGECRAFT   (9,10,11,12) 1 Credit/1 Semester

This is a non-acting class for students interested in the technical aspects of the theater.  Students will learn principles and applications of stage makeup, lighting, sound effects, costuming, set design and prop building.  Students in the class will be responsible for technical aspects of the plays produced at LCHS.  Students will be required to be involved outside of class in helping with lighting, sound and face-makeup for school events.

 

8250 - IMPROVISATIONAL THEATRE (9,10, 11,12) 1 Credit/1 Semester

This course is designed as an in depth study of the art of improvisation.  It contains the study and practice of the seven different styles of improvisational theatre and the basic format of scenes.  Actors will learn to incorporate audience input as a beginning point and each scene is a type of theatre game.  Actors are encouraged to extend themselves, try new things. Always listen, increase their ability to accept, perform physical characterizations and make their imaginary environments and objects real. 
Prerequisite:  Theatre 1.

 

8315 - MIXED CHOIR  (9,10,11,12) 2 Credits/2 Semesters

A two-semester course open to all students, both guys and girls.  This class will stress singing and music fundamentals for the less experienced student.  This course is a prerequisite for advanced level choirs.

 

8330 - CONCERT CHOIR  (10,11,12) 2 Credits/2 Semesters

A course of study and performance of more difficult choral literature arranged for mixed chorus.  In addition to LCHS Concerts this choir performs at the District I Large Group Festival.  Male students from this choir are also invited to participate in the after-school Men’s Choir. 
Prerequisite:  Instructor's Approval

8335 - TREBLE CHORUS (9,10) 2 Credits/2 Semesters

A two-semester course open to all female students.  This ensemble performs at LCHS concerts and District Large Group Festival.  This course is a prerequisite for advanced-level choirs.

 

8341 - WOMENS'S SELECT CHOIR  (10,11,12) 2 Credits/2 Semesters

This is an auditioned treble choir.  Strong vocal ability and some sight-reading ability a must.  This group performs for a wide variety of events including LCHS Concerts, games, assemblies, and various concerts.   
Prerequisite:  Instructor's Approval after audition.

8350 - VOCAL JAZZ (10,11,12) 2 Credits/2 Semesters

Open tobothguysand gals, this choir's styles include swing, Latin, jazz and more.  Sight-reading ability required.  High energy, dynamic personalities a must!  Enrollment in Concert Choir is a must.  This group performs at a variety of community functions.  
Prerequisite:  Instructor’s Approval after audition.

8510 - RHYTHM AND PERCUSSION PERFORMANCE ALTERNATIVES (9,10,11,12) 1 Credit/1 Semester

This course will explore alternative rhythmic and percussion devices in combination with movement and theatrical performance. (Not offered every year.)
Prerequisite:  Instructor interview and approval.

 

8515 - INTRODUCTION TO GUITAR (9,10,11,12) 1 Credit/1 Semester

A class for beginning level guitar students.  Beginning music notation, theory, chords, and performance skills will be studied.                     Prerequisite:  Acoustic guitar required - electric guitar will not be acceptable.  (Not offered every year) 

 

8445 - STRING ENSEMBLE  (9,10,11,12) 2 Credits/2 Semesters

An orchestra open to students of intermediate skill level.  This course is dedicated to the study of orchestral music using violin, viola, cello, and bass.

 

8450 - STRING ORCHESTRA  (9,10,11,12) 2 Credits/2 Semesters

An advanced class in orchestra where students will continue to develop technique and study more difficult music for concert performance. 
Prerequisite:  Instructor Approval

IB Performance students will be seated concurrently with the regular performance students.  Required course work is significantly higher including a research paper and performance/audition requirements.  ·   This course must be taken prior to or concurrently with 8515 IB Music if a student is taking the IB certificate or diploma.  ·   Each course may be taken independently. ·   Only one IB Performance course may be taken per year – maximum of 4 credits total. ·   Students may take either or both courses and receive only LCHS credit and the IB weighted grade.
