Courses & Descriptions

 3.5 Credits per semester which includes 1 math credit per semester

AUTOMOTIVE TECHNOLOGY  (11,12)


The is a 2 year program designed for students who intend to enter the automotive repair field as a trained technician.  This program is based upon nationally recognized industry standards and is taught by an Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) certified instructor.  The students will receive hands on and classroom instruction to become skilled technicians.

This course can be taken as a 1 or 2 year course and students will be working toward industry certifications.


DIESEL TECHNOLOGY  (11,12)

This is a 2 year program designed for students who intend to enter the Diesel Engine & Heavy Equipment repair field as a trained technician.  This program is based upon nationally recognized industry standards and is taught by a National Automotive Technicians Education Foundation (NATEF) or Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) certified instructor.  The students will receive hands on and classroom instruction to become skilled technicians.  This course can be taken as a 1 or 2 year course and students will be working toward industry certification.


COMPUTER REPAIR & NETWORKING (11,12)

This is a 2 year program designed for students who intend to enter the computer technology field as a trained technician.  This program is based upon nationally recognized industry standards and is taught by an A+ and NET+ certified instructor.  The students will receive classroom instruction and hands on repair work to become skilled technicians for a variety of employment opportunities.  Topics covered in the Computer & Network Systems program include basic skills needed to repair and maintain computer systems, using a variety of hardware and software installation of operating system software and networking of computers and systems.  This course can be taken as a 1 or 2 year course and students will be working toward industry certifications.


HEALTH PROFESSIONS/CNA (11,12)
 

This is a 2 year course.  Year 1 is an introduction to Health Professions.  This course is designed to provide students with a broad understanding of the health care system and introduction to the roles of various members of the health care team.  Current trends and issues in health care are explored and discussed.  Professionalism, legal and ethical issues, scope of practice and job descriptions for several health occupations will be reviewed and shared along with some job shadowing experience.  Students will become members of the student led organization, Health Occupations of America (HOSA) to enhance job skills and leadership opportunities.  Other curriculum includes anatomy and physiology, as well as an introduction to medical terminology.  Students will become CPR certified.

Year 1 is a prerequisite for Year 2 course.  Year 2 is Certified Nursing Assistant & Pharmacy Technician.  Students will receive a much more focused, in depth exposure to the health care professions.  During the first semester students will complete the course requirements for their C.N.A. and be eligible to take the Nursing Assistant Competency Evaluation (NACEP) exam.  Students will have supervised training in both long-term care and acute care in the hospital in preparation for their certification.  During the second semester, students will have the opportunity to have a work internship or proceed with the pass-assured pharmacy tech program and obtain a certification in the Assistant with Medication course, re-certification in CPR and First Aid.

Additional curriculum includes specialized areas in nursing, including restorative and rehabilitation therapy.  Tech prep credit will be available to students in Health Professionals, Infection Control, Communication and Medical Terminology.  HOSA will be integrated into the program along with project based activities for program enhancement.


CONSTRUCTION TRADES (11,12)


This is a 2 year program which is based upon industry standards associated with the Residential Carpentry field.  Students applying for enrollment in this course should have a passion for all areas of this career field.  Students will be covering curriculum from planning and design through construction and marketing of a residential home.  This is a hands-on course which includes Safety, Tools Usage and Operation, Construction Techniques including foundation, framing, roofing, etc.  This program requires extensive standing, climbing, bending and kneeling.  This course can be taken as a 1 or 2 year course and students will be working toward industry certifications.


INDUSTRIAL WELDINIG & METAL FABRICATION (11,12)


This is a 2 year program which is based upon industry standard AWS (American Welding Society) certification standards.  This program is designed to prepare students for entry level employment as structural, pipe or production welders.  Students will be working toward industry certifications.  This program complies with national standards established by AWS (American Welding Society) and is taught by an AWS certified welding instructor.  Welding Technology combines theory and applied shop practices designed to develop welding skills including OAC (Oxy-Acetylene Cutting), SMAW (Shielded Metal Arc Welding), GMAW (Gas Metal Arc Welding), and GTAW (Gas Tungsten Arc Welding), as well as blueprint reading, layout procedures, metallurgy and safety.  This program can be taken as a 1 or 2 year course


THE RESORT ACADEMY  (11,12)

This is a 2 year program in Lodging Management that partners the high schools and the Coeur d’Alene Resort to provide a comprehensive curriculum in the hospitality and tourism industry.  Class is held at the CDA Resort.

 

Year 1 – students will work with the management team of different departments (housekeeping & Laundry, front desk, reservations, Dockside food service & preparation, Convention Center Food service & preparation, and spa, at the CDA Resort for two days each week.  Year 1 students are also responsible for researching and planning the annual three day spring trip for all members of the Resort Academy.  Professional reading and writing is done with industry trade journals.  Journal writing will be used to record worksite learning and off-site visitations.

 

Year 2 – students will work with various departments including transportation, engineering, sales, catering and accounting.  Students will have direct participation in the CDA Resort’s strategic development.  Year 2 students will be using their experience in the hospitality/tourism industry by planning and brining to fruition a fundraising project to benefit a local charity.  This project is known as “Teens Reaching Out”.  Professional reading and writing and reflective journaling will continue in this course.

 

 


AUTOMATION MANUFACTURING/ENGINEERING (11,12)

This is a 2 year program which has been designed for students who desire to begin their careers in either Engineering or Engineering Technology.  This course is based upon industry standards for a broad range of the manufacturing industries.  Specific subject matter will include: Computer Aided Drafting & Design (CAD), Electronics & Electro-Mechanical, Hydraulics & Pneumatics, Motor Controls & Automation, Robotics & Programmable Logic Controls, Robotics & Programmable Logic Controls, Gears & Linkages, Safety Management, and Machining.  This course can be taken as a 1 or 2 year course and students will be working toward industry certifications.
